There are lots of cats at the Shelter too, all in their their own house to be safe from the dogs. When I walked in, these two looked pretty comfortable staked out in the window behind the door.

Well, my schedule has been off a bit lately as I've had family visiting for the last week. Sometimes, life is better spent away from the computer.
So Animal Monday is being posted today. This pretty potcake (mixed breed) is just relaxing in the shade of a doorway. Today's animal is a curly tail lizard. Although at the time, this one wasn't inclined to curl his tail. They're prevalent throughout the Bahamas, kind of our unofficial mascot. The lizards don't bother with people, but love to bother with all kinds of bugs. For that reason, I always welcome them in my home when they choose to visit.
This is Nano, he's my favorite dog at the shelter. He comes to say hello every morning before retiring to his spot on the front porch. He won Best Senior Dog in the last annual HSGB Dog Show. I think he's beautiful.
I follow several blogs and newsletters, many of them are about photography. One of the newer ones had a short e book written by Darlene Hildebrandt. One of her suggestions was to start a project photographing the same theme for a year. I thought that was a really cool idea and immediately knew I could work that into my new project, this blog.
My theme was pretty easy for me to choose also. "By day" I'm the accounts manager of the Humane Society of Grand Bahama. We see so many animals, literally hundreds, come in over the course of a year. Most of them are beautiful, friendly dogs who need a home. So Mondays will now be animal themed. This dog spent a good part of the day just sitting at the gate watching the activity. I chose to photograph her behind the fence to emphasize her expression. You can almost feel her saying "let me out, play with me". |
